One of the things we know to be true is this: you can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving. We give our time, our energy, and yes, our money to what we really love.
That’s why Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Jesus understood that there was an intimate tie between what we most care about and what we spend our money on—that, in truth, the latter reveals the former.
When the people of Jesus gather to worship, they often make a point of giving money to their church. That’s not to support the budget, pay the staff, or to keep the doors open. When we give money to a church, we’re engaging in a spiritual exercise, aligning our hearts with Jesus’ heart to love the least, the last, and the lost.
